Study-tour to Khan Steel Manufacturing Company

Steel production is one of the most significant industries of a country. Most of today’s advanced nations have had speedy economic growth after they have established the steel industry. This has been the case with both South Korea and Taiwan. The establishment of such important industry in Afghanistan is challenging on one hand and promising on the other. On November 01, 2023, the Department of Business Administration (BBA) arranged an academic tour to Khan Steel Mill, one of the first steel manufacturers in the country, so that the students of business and economics could see the methods of managing steel companies and comprehend the important role of steel industry in the economic development of the country. After the students toured the production chain and other facilities of the factory, the leadership of Khan Steel Mill, sat with them for a cup of tea. They explained the importance of steel industry for Afghanistan’s rebuilding efforts and encouraged the students to pursue their education with interest and enthusiasm. “Since the country is moving towards development and there is need for a young and bright cadre to lead the rebuilding efforts,” said Dr. Sayed Abdul Moiz, Al-Taqwa University’s Dean for the Faculty of Economics. At the end of the tour, Dr. Abdul Moiz thanked Khan Steel representatives for their cooperation in facilitation of the visit.   Towards a Promising Future…

World Food Day – October 16th

The SDGs Club in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics at Al-Taqwa Institute of Higher Education Celebrated World Food Day on October 16th. World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on October 16 to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Program, the World Health Organization, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development Over 10 percent of the world’s population suffers from hunger despite the fact that plenty of food is produced to feed everyone. And over a third of all food ends up going to waste, a problem particularly prevalent in wealthy Western countries. These are the kinds of facts that are behind the drive to eliminate world hunger by 2030, the UN’s SDG 1 (No Poverty-Zero Hunger). Awareness on the importance of World Food Day was raised among the staff, faculty, and students through multiple sessions as an integral part of the celebration. In collaboration with Helping Hand for Relief and Development Foundation, around 250 vulnerable students and members of the local community were hosted with the free lunch and takeaway of food to their families. Moreover, fifty (50) orphans from the Darul Rahmah Orphanage were invited for having the lunch and takeaway of food on the day of celebration. The session was open to public and we also welcomed a large number of the needy members of the local community who visited Al-Taqwa Institute of Higher Education on October 16th for serving the lunch, takeaway of food to their families and celebrated the World Food Day with us.   Towards a Promising Future…

Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community. It is an integral component of health and well-being that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, build relationships and shape the world we live in. Mental health is a basic human right. And it is crucial to personal, community and socio-economic development. World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. World Health Organization (WHO) continues to work nationally and internationally – including in humanitarian settings – to provide governments and partners with the strategic leadership, evidence, tools and technical support to strengthen a collective response to mental health and enable a transformation towards better mental health for all.  A large number of faculty and students participated in the event from all four bachelor academic programs at Al-Taqwa Institute of Higher Education.
